The Marcus Center of Excellence for Cell Biomanufacturing and the NSF Engineering Research Center for Cell Manufacturing Technologies (CMaT) were spotlighted by the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology (NSCEB) during its Biotech Across America Roadshow this spring, which highlighted biotechnology innovation advancements across the United States.
During the visit, NSCEB representatives toured the Marcus Nanotechnology Building and its advanced facilities, gaining firsthand insight into Georgia's expanding biotechnology ecosystem and the collaborative infrastructure that supports cutting-edge research, workforce development, and innovation. The visit highlighted how Georgia Tech's investments in cell therapy biomanufacturing are strengthening the nation's leadership in emerging biotechnologies while helping make next-generation therapies safer, more affordable, and more broadly available to patients.
The Marcus Center is a nationally recognized hub for advancing innovative research in cell characterization, automation, process analytics, and scalable manufacturing, bringing together clinicians, industry researchers, product developers, scientists, and engineers to address the complex challenges of therapeutic cell manufacturing. The Center provides end-to-end research and development solutions that accelerate the development of high-quality cell therapies from the laboratory to clinical application.
Through its close partnership with the Marcus Center, CMaT is helping transform the manufacture of cell-based therapeutics into a large-scale, lower-cost, reproducible, and high-quality engineered process for broad industry and clinical use. Led by Georgia Tech and supported by a network of universities and industry partners, CMaT conducts translational research focused on data science and artificial intelligence for cell manufacturing and advanced automation and process engineering to improve production reliability and scalability.
